    "True Blood" Season 2

    I've decided to revisit my first article for Mancouch where I talked about my obsession with--perhaps addiction to--True Blood. While there are and certainly have been better shows, something about "True Blood" has hooked millions of viewers across America and raised expectations for this season to supernatural highs. So far, we've not been disappointed.

    There are plenty of incredible shows returning this summer, including Entourage and Mad Men; however, I'm not nearly as excited for those as I was for this season of "True Blood." It probably has a lot to do with the ad campaigns: last year, signs were plastered around New York in support of or against something called the Vampire Rights Amendment. I had no idea what the posters were for, but it got me incredibly excited for something awesome. This season, the "True Blood" advertising team did a lot of cross-marketing, working on the premise that vampires are out in the open and need products just as much as us mortals do.

    Without giving anything away, let's just say that this season has been pretty phenomenal. I've found I lack the patience to wait a full week between episodes, preferring to devour a whole season in one or two sittings with OnDemand. Of course, I would never make it through that waiting period, either.

    Some major perks of this season: the perspective is expanding dramatically, giving us glimpses into the anti-vampire religious right, as well as hinting at the power structure behind the vampire world. There's a lot more of Eric in this season, and I'll be the first to admit that I have a massive broner for Eric Northman.

     
    Admit it, guys: he's a total dreamboat.

    We're also beginning to drift out of straight-up vampires-and-humans horror into a vastly darker world in which Sam Merlotte isn't the only of his kind and demons do exist. The Maryann storyline is ridiculously intriguing, as well as the Lafayette storyline. In fact, Sookie and Bill have been nearly overshadowed by the significantly more mysterious and appealing relationships in the show, including the new love affair including nice-guy Hoyt and Jessica. SO GOOD.

    Okay. If I say anything else, I'll be tempted to give stuff away. What do you guys think about Season 2?
